When Jose Mourinho was the manager for Chelsea from 2013-2015 he absolutely destroyed the flow of youth at Chelsea. He is a believer in the now, not the future. Jose Mourinho got rid of the young Kevin De Bruyne during the 2015 transfer window. Kevin De Bruyne is now one of the top players in the EPL and has proved himself tremendously. Jose Mourinho also let go another star who is currently one of the best strikers in the EPL. Romelu Lukaku… The thought of Chelsea letting him go makes me sick. He was such an amazing promising talent.
Although I could blame all of Chelsea’s struggle with their youth on Jose Mourinho I guess that wouldn’t be fair. Even after Jose Mourinho, Chelsea still struggles to find ways to incorporate their youth. Chelsea has 16 youth players out on loan including some amazing youth talent like Kurt Zouma, Ruben Loftus Cheek, and many more. This is the highest amount of loaned players from one team in the EPL. This really helps prove Chelsea’s lack of commitment to their youth.
Chelsea is ranked lowest in the league in amount of minutes given to Englishmen under 23. Chelsea also has just struggled to give any players great time. Ruben Loftus Cheek is a really promising talent who given the chance, can become an amazing player. However they have loaned him out where he isn’t even getting any playing time there. Another player they need to work with more is Michy Batshuayi. Michy is an amazing striker who moved to the Club last year and has only made 27 appearances, 7 as a sub. He is an amazing “youngish” talent who needs more minutes and needs to be rotated with Morata more often.
